Understanding the Types of Health Insurance

Even though health insurance is a mandatory insurance to have, but we cannot deny that the price of the insurance is still so high and not all people can afford it. Therefore, since health insurance is often seen as luxury, then make sure to learn about the insurance a lot before we make any decision. The first and most important things we should understand is the type of the health insurance. Health insurance can be divided into two categories: indemnity plans and managed care plans. Indemnity plan is usually called as reimbursement plans. Managed care plans can be divided into three categories: health maintenance organization or HMOs, preferred provider organization or PPOs and point of service or POS.

The first category, indemnity plan gives us freedom to choose our own physician. We can also choose whether the medical expense is given totally, in part or in specific period. The second category is managed care plan that has bread coverage. However, even though the health insurance is serving wider coverage than the first category, the health insurance involves arrangement between the selected network and us. It means we only have limited options on the hospital, physician and other medical aspects. With the health insurance plan, we have a great access inside the network, but less coverage outside the network.

The second health insurance is having a wider coverage, but it does not mean that it is perfect for us. The most important coverage we should have are hospital, surgical physician, and lab expense covers. The coverage is the basic and most important coverage. Things that might be covered by the health insurance are preventive care, prescription drugs, mental health benefits, dental care, vision care, maternity care and many others. Of course, the type of health insurance will affect the money we have to spend. If we are looking for Oklahoma health insurance, then make sure to visit OklahomaHealthInsurance.com
